Tips to Deal with Stress during Your Exams

As a student, you are likely no stranger to stress. You look at your calendar and you see all those dates – and then you look at the mountains of courses that have piled up on your desk. All of them contain information that you would have to use on your exams.

Regardless if you already went through the material or are planning to go strong on the days before the exam, you are probably stressing out. What if I don’t pass? What if what I learned is not good enough? What if my train malfunctions on the way to the exam, and I don’t make it?

There are so many things that can stress you out during an exam – but thankfully, there are a few ways for you to keep that stress under control. Here is what you may do to ease out that stressed mind of yours.

  1. Ease Up On the Caffeine

There’s a reason why this made it as the top thing to de-stress yourself. As a student, it’s likely that you currently have more caffeine running through your veins that you have blood. We understand, it helps you stay awake and study – but it also raises your anxiety levels.  If you are already feeling stressed out, caffeine will only make it worse.

That being said, you don’t have to cut off your caffeine intake completely. If you do, you might experience symptoms of withdrawal – which also won’t do your stress levels any good. Simply drink moderate amounts of coffee, such as a cup that goes along with your breakfast.

  • Listen to Classical Music

It might not be your cup of tea, but it has been proven that classical music can create a productive and positive environment – which is good for your stress levels. It can boost your brainpower and allows you to study – all while relaxing your brain and easing up on your stress. If you don’t like classical music, ambient music can work just as well.

  • Plan a Routine

There’s nothing more stressful than the moment you are not studying – but continuously knowing that you have to study. Most students do not make a study plan – which turns all of your time in “I’m supposed to study now” time. This leads to a lot of procrastination, failure to study when you should – and more stress overall.

This is why you might want to plan a study routine – and stick to it. When you know the exact time when you have to study, you will be able to feel more relaxed during your free time. It might be difficult to stick to that routine at first – but eventually, it will get in your system.

  • Take Regular Entertainment Breaks

While you might not want to make every day an entertainment break, it is recommended that at least once a day, you do something that you like. Go watch a movie. Grab a cup of chamomile tea with your friends (it also eases up your stress levels), or simply take a walk in the park. Get into writing college papers for money, if that’s how you relax.

If you don’t take these breaks, you’ll only be confined in front of your books – which will obviously stress you out. You need to take a “brain break” every now and again so that you may get back to studying at full force.

  • Start Exercising

Feeling stressed out? In that case, you need to find a way to channel that stress and ease up. Exercising has proven to be quite an effective way to do so, as it boosts your mind while keeping you healthy. Plus, with the adrenaline rush that you will get from exercising, it is likely that you will feel more productive when you are studying.

Ideally, if your exams are taking place during the summer, you might want to take the exercising outdoors. However, if it’s during winter, you might exercise home or get a gym membership; regardless, 30 minutes a day will be more than enough to help you ease up, relax, and feel better about yourself.

Final Thoughts

Exams are not easy to go through, and they can indeed be very stressful for any student – regardless of the domain that they are studying in. However, with the right activities, you can make that exam period feel more bearable.
